Jesus Calms the Storm – an after school club/sunday school teaching pack

Published May 14, 2012 by kimmiebee

This story can be found in Mark 4:35-41 and it is a very well-known story and often done in schools or sunday schools. I love this story it is really easy to get creative with.

I also did this story as part of a University project, where I had to create a teaching pack for a Bible story. I have included the links for that on this post.

Jesus calms the storm lower This is part of the Universtiy project and is aimed at Primary school teachers to help them when it comes to teaching on this subject. This is a story sequencing sheet, there is also a higher version of this sheet that I have put on here yet but will do at some point. The other sheet is still on my external hard drive which I am not connected to at the moment.

Emotions work sheet lo This sheet is again to be used along side the national curriculum. The sheet encourages the development of empathy and the understanding of emotions. In this sheet the children are asked to think about how different charactors may be feeling and express these feelings in either words or pictures.

Now on to the stuff that was developed for the after school club

Games sheets I came up with a few games for this theme. Yes I did a pairs game again the pictures are included bellow

lables for the wall One of the games that I thought of was a game that involved running to different areas of the room. This document helps the children and leaders to remember which area is which.

prompt for the story This story lends itself to actions. So while the story is being told there are simple things that the children can do to interact with the story. The actions will help the children to remember what was going on in the story  too. These were prompts to help the children to listen and know when to perform the appropriate actions.

how to make This is a simple craft that I did while I was in Africa. While in Africa we stuck paper people and paper boats to lollypop sticks. This time however we used wooden people already on sticks and just stuck on the boats.

Through the Roof – an after school club/sunday school teaching pack

Published May 7, 2012 by kimmiebee

This story can be found in Mark 2:1-12

I have a lot of apologies to make on this one firstly that it was not posted on time it was supposed to be posted on Monday and I am writing it now on Tuesday. My bad!!

My second apology is that I was unable to find a suitable game for this story. The group that I have been doing these packs for are short of space and people, there are only six of them. which causes problems for me. If you have come on to my post looking for games and you have space and more people I recommend this game. It involves racing round with teddies on towels stretched between four people to make a stretcher.

My final apology is that again this blog is not great and it is not my best or crafty blog. I can assure you that the next post on Jesus Calms the Storm will be much better.

Thanks for stopping by.

The Centurion’s Servant – an after school club/sunday school teaching pack

Published May 2, 2012 by kimmiebee

This is the second of my packs that I have put together for the Rocky. Now this story was a little harder for me because there was less for the theme and I was not that familiar with the story. I had to read it over a fair few times to work out what was going on in the story and what the main points were and how to communicate that to young kids.

This story is found in Luke 7:1-10 and in it a Centurion asks Jesus to heal his servant and recognizes that Jesus can do such a miracle without seeing the servant.

So I will now apologise for the lack of stuff for this story but this is all I have. Hopefully I will be back on form for some of the others that I will post in the next few weeks.

Ok so today (May 23rd 2012) I have noticed that I have not posted the documents that go with this post. Sorry about that. Here they are:

Water into Wine – an after school club/sunday school teaching pack

Published April 26, 2012 by kimmiebee

Rocky has recently asked me to make the teaching packs for the church’s children’s club for now to the end of term. I jumped at the chance to have a go if you have read my interview feedback blog you will see that I am quite good at making resources.  The first theme of teaching was Water into Wine (Jesus’ first Miracle).

So I set about the task and came up the following resources to go with the theme

Games sheets

These two pages contain ideas for games. There are four games in total. Two games that are more active and involve running round and being a little noisy and two games that involve being more quiet and thinking or paying attention to things.

For one of the games I made a set of matching pairs games. I did this by printing the following pictures on to card, colouring them in, sticking them on to backing card and then laminating.

Craft How tos this explains two simple crafts in easy to follow steps. The one craft is making a bunch of grapes (wine is made from grapes, normally) and the second is a paper plate spinner which turns th blue water into red wine.

these are the templates that you will need to complete the crafts. I will at some point add a picture of the finished plate spinner so that you can see the hole that needs to be cut in the plate.

And finally I decided to do a Take home sheet which includes information about the story and where it can be found in the Bible. This then helps the parents to know what the children have been learning and helps them to find it so that they can discuss what their children have learnt.
